Thanksgiving

Well I guess Lela said most of it. I did try to eat more pies than anyone else - I might have succeeded had not the MI bunch had a head start on the pies. As Lela said there was lots of stuff brought from Big R and I think she was most pleased with the blue cow bells (from the Allen Americans) and I don't think they helped the Colts win one (0-11 now). I think I have all the pink pigs removed from my clothes. I case you do not know some one was in my room and put all kinds of pink pig stickers through out clothes etc!! Not riding for a couple of weeks as Thanksgiving in GA took one week and Jason/Heather/Nolan and ? (un-named) are coming for a vitis this weekend.

Well I guess that is it

Sat/Sun rides and more rain

The Saturday ride was an uneventful 45 mi ride but the Sunday ride was more interesting. A couple of the riders that come to the Sunday ride come over on their bicycles and came by this "accident" site. We rode from our starting place to the site and just had to take some pictures. As you can see from the inserted green airbourne car the he traveled quite a distance. This was at the end of street with a T intersection and he missed the turns. From the curb you can see he scraped some dirt before becoming airbourne and the went thru both sides of the storage building. He hit nothing on the ground, bushes, trees etc from the curb to the storage building. Our thoughts were his blood alcohol was above 0.08 and the reports were he walked away from the site as no one was there when the site was discovered on Sunday morning. No witnesses and the car had a Mexican plate but a Gieco insurance card on the car. We all would have liked to have seen the accident. Just notice all the onlookers. As you can guess we never know where we are going or what we are going to see on out Sunday rides. When people ask where we are going we reply we follow the leader and get back to the starting place with about 30-40 miles. OH yes it is again raining in Big R and we will have a 40 degree temperature drop over the evening - From 87 this pm to 45 in the am

This is the website for more photos of the Sunday ride. Look under the home page for photos and then the Sunday ride. Lots of history if interested

Whew - RAIN

It started raining Sat evening, stopped early Sun am and then started again Sun afternoon. first rain in a LOOOONNNNGGG time. Had a bicycle party on Sunday and some people rode in the morning but I did not as I do not like wet streets - remember it rained late Sat evening and early Sun morning. Couple of hockey games into the season 1:1 and another one this afternoon (Mon)

On one of our Sunday rides we heard there was FREE ice cream in the Farmers Market in Dallas. So we all headed down for a free snack at our rest stop. Here is the pictue of the group - (motley looking). This lasy weekend rode 55 mi on SA and 35 on SU so I'm resting today MO. STARS start the regular season this FR after going 6:1 in the pre-season. Last night the STARS had a alumni game and the coaches were the goalies of the teams. The alumni were mixed with the current players and played 25 min halves. Fun hockey but not rough. Lots of hooking, obstruction but no hitting into the boards. Other than that some old stuff in Big R

To see more about the theater and purpose look at MBS Productions. Off today Monday and back to the grind on TU for 3 whole days and then off again FR for more bike riding, theater and hockey. BOOORRRRING aren't I??

Cooler Weather and RAIN

Rained last night - don't know how much but people were playing in the rain. Enough to leave puddles in the drainage ditches on the side of the road. The ride this am was dry streets, dodging the puddles on the sides of the streets and we made it 52 miles this am. Longest ride since the heat wave started in June 2011. Came home and took a 2 hr nap and now ready to go. Will ride 30-35 mi tomorrow SU and then who knows.

Set the record of 71 days of temps 100 and greater - as if I wanted to live thru that record. It was semi disappointing when we were at 69 days and might not break the record - having so many days and then not doing it!!!! The last 2 days were 105 and the previous record was 100 in 1930 so it was broken in style.

STARS start the preseason this week with the first home pre-season game this TH

WRLR Not ER - DR

The bruise is on the inside of my left leg - caused by the cross bar of the bicycle. The right ankle "cuts" caused by the chainring (big sprocket in front) and naturally the knee road rash. I was at a stop "almost" with a group on Labor Day. We had just started and I had not down shifted to a lower gear and when I pushed with the left leg I lost my balance and this resulted. The comments as always are first "Is the bike OK" and then "Are you hurt" Nice people.

What we do to stay healthy!!!!

It is cooling off in TX. rode 40+ mi this am and will ride both SU and MO. Went the Theater3 for "Wild Oats" a Western comedy and then to see "Hamlisch Plays Hamlisch" on FR at the Dallas Symphony Pops concert. Both really interesting Wild Oats, laughed my "butt off" throughout and it was nice to hear Hamlisch play some of his own stuff. Now lets see what happens next week

The Allen Americans are getting ready for the next season and I had to go and watch the auditions for the Ice Angles last night. Here are the final ones. Yeah Hockey!!!!

Other than getting ready for hockey - saw a first reading of "Duets" a play on TU. Even though it was only a read thru the actor and actress maed it really funny. Will have to go see it after they get it ready for the public. Still riding the bike even though it is in the 100's still. Off to the SU ride of 30+ miles this am.

Monday, August 22, 2011

Still very hot and setting new heat records on a daily basis. Does not stop the club grom riding however - just more frequent rest stops and more water consumption. did see "The Little Show of Horrors" at the Water Tower theater Thursday. The plant was very funny and had 2 people operating the plant. One for the voice and one for "eating" the people. Other than that not much new

It is so sad. We had 40 days of >100 and then the rain came. The record of 42 days >100 was not broken. After 40 days it could have waited at least 3 more days before the rain. In the next 20 or so years we will get another chance. Rained yesterday (SA) so no bike ride in the am but a short one in the pm. Today (SU) rode for 32 miles with the club. Hockey season is about to start!!!

Monday, August 8, 2011

It is hot in TX. Going for a record of >100 degree days. Will beat the 1980 record on SA and that is what it is looking like. Gets to cool off to the mid 80's in the evening. Still riding the bike - Yes even in the heat. Attended a couple of plays in the last 2 weeks.

1. SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE at Theater 2
A Dallas premiere of a new musical by Michael John LaChiusa
A powerful musical of lust, greed, murder, faith and redemption retelling classic Japanese stories stunningly re-set in mid-20th-Century Manhattan. “Entertains and astonishes at the same time…” “Will knock you flat…” “Not-to-be-missed…” “A tour-de-force for the performers…”

OK but?? This is the series of plays I see the first "read thru" with the actors/actresses and then it is fun to see the final production.

2. Satyricon by Gaius Petronius,
World Premiere adaptation of the scandalous Roman Novel.
Adapted to the stage by Mark-Brian Sonna

Set in the time of Nero, this comedic play explores the misadventures of an over the hill and broke Roman soldier and his young slave as they live off the rich and famous.
Follow their ever increasing misadventures as they mooch off wealthy noblemen, sleep with their wives, and do whatever it takes to get by. Frequently banned, Satyricon has been considered as one of the greatest books ever written as well as the most “scandalous" and "filthiest" in Western Literature.

These are weird, interesting, not for everyone performaces - but all entertaining and this was the least entertaining of all

Off today - the reason for the post and trying to stay cool just as the DB is also

Hot

Not much from down here but we are now tied for the 3 longest streak of >100 days at I think 25 or 26 but who is counting. 106 here yesterday. Working, still riding my bike 40-50 mi on SA and 30-40mi on SU. We do stop a little more often for water etc than in the past. Waiting for the start of hockey, theater and symphony and a little cooler weather.

Hot in TX

Y'all are talking about heat and whatever - Here is what is going on in TEXAS

A buddy out of Longview said he'd killed a mosquito that was carrying a canteen.

A man in Dime Box said the chicken farmers were giving the chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.

In Lake Palestine, they caught a 20 lb catfish that had ticks on it!

But just this week, in Bryan, a fire hydrant was seen bribing a dog.

It's so dry in Texas that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling,
the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water.

Now that is Really HOT!!!!

Monday, July 18, 2011

Well I'm back for another post. Had some rain Sat night - just enough to get the streets wet and now back to 100+ temps. Hit the roads for 42mi on SA and 25 on SU as we had an accident that needed the ambulance to the ride and a trip the the ER. Have not heard yet about the person but he seemed OK and was walking with road rash and will probably be sore for a couple of days. Broke his helmet so he needed to be looked at. We had an MD (our ride leader) and and Firefighter/EMT on the ride so he had pretty good first aid while waiting on the ambulance.
Back to work tomorrow.
Saw a funny play FR night "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress" the review from the website follows
** "A wickedly funny comedy from the writer of American Beauty and creator/producer of the HBO series’ Six Feet Under and True Blood; Five Women Wearing the Same Dress tells the story of five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hiding out in an upstairs bedroom to avoid the proceedings of an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee, estate. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this comical, irreverent and touching celebration of the women's spirit."**

I guess the Dust Bunny picture needs no explanation. This is an auto-biography and how she is now helping with the AC/Heat and food bills. She was reading until she heard me get the camera.

The other 2 pictures need some explanation. I was in Germantown, TN to see the Trockadero ballet in Feburary 2011. The trip over was no problem however the trip back was 11 hours and IH 30 had closed down at Mt. Pleasant TX. So some backroads were necessary (they were better than IH30) to Hwy 80 and back to Big R. Upon arriving the doors would not open as they were iced shut - but with lots of pushing they opened. Looking at the back hub-caps was interesting. These were ice formations spun off the center of the wheel. Never seen that before and probably do now want to see it again. Started looking for some new wheels as the truck has 121,000 miles runn8ing fine but who knows. Looked at a Mazda 5 as I had a ride in one last month in TN and also the Ford Escape. Need room for the bicycle in the back. Presently my choice is the Ford as I took the Miata into the dealership for an oil change on FR and they were taking reservations for next TU. Now with Ford I get same day service. Will keep looking as it is not a real problem presently. How about this for 2 posts in one month???

Friday, July 1, 2011

Well it has been a while since the last post and Walgreens Long Term Cae closed 1/26/2011. It was nice they did it after 1/1/2011 as I got 2 weeks vacation pay (all vacation is given at the first of the year - at least then) plus termination pay of 2 weeks - not bad. Then as y'all know it was back to the VA and now working TU-TH and have 4 day weekends each week. Still riding the bike even in the 100 degree weather - 50+ on SA and 30-35 on SU then have to rest up during the week at work. Still theater/DSO/hockey (Stars and Americans) going on and the new seasons are about to start. Will try to keep you posted as to the weird theaters I sometimes see. Hit the horse races last night and came home $0.80 to the better even after financing the dinner and a couple of beers. Think what I would have come home with if I did not have the beers!!! Next post hopefully before 6 months
